SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
1/16/2026

Dear CSD Families,

As we head into the weekend, we want to take a moment to wish you a safe, restful, and joyful few days together.

Reminder:

  • Monday is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
  • No school for students
  • All District sites closed

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a meaningful time to reflect on the values of kindness, fairness, courage, and service to others. Dr. King believed that “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.” This weekend is a wonderful opportunity to talk with your children about how small acts of kindness, helping a sibling, being a good friend, or standing up for what’s right, can make a big difference.

You might consider:

  • Reading a book or watching a short video about Dr. King together

  • Encouraging your child to do one kind act for someone else

  • Talking about how your family can help make your community a better place

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, ready for another great week of learning and growth.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Take care,

Michael Chaix, Ed.D.
Superintendent

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

THE ONTARIO CENTER SCHOOL
 By Principal Narrie Gavares

The lights were on and the 3D printers were humming with excitement at our Fall Family Maker Mania Night at The Ontario Center School! Students and their families filled the cafeteria, ready to tackle a fun and ambitious challenge: designing their very own spooky 3D-printed candle holders. Parents and students teamed up to use Tinkercad, a user-friendly 3D design software, to create unique candle holders that would illuminate Halloween-themed images. Our amazing teachers were on hand to guide everyone through the process, making sure that even first-time designers felt confident and had a blast. It was truly a night of learning for all—and for many parents, it was their very first time working with 3D design software.

The room was buzzing with creativity and collaboration as families worked together to bring their spooky designs to life. The air was filled with the delicious smell of free pizza as everyone worked hard on their projects. The best part? Soon, all of the students and parents will be able to collect their final, printed creations! We can't wait to see all of the incredible 3D-printed candle holders in person.

This event was a fantastic way to bring our school community together while building on the Portrait of a Graduate, our district's vision for the future. By offering hands-on experiences like this, we're helping our families grow their digital literacy and embrace future-forward understanding. It was a wonderful night, and we look forward to hosting more exciting family events that spark curiosity and creativity for everyone.
