SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
1/23/2026

Dear CSD Families:

We hope you’re having a wonderful week! Our classrooms have been filled with thoughtful conversations, creative problem-solving, and meaningful learning moments worth celebrating. We’re excited to share a snapshot of what’s been happening on campus and to continue strengthening the connection between school and home.

Across grade levels, students have been building strong foundations in reading, writing, and math while practicing collaboration and kindness. We’re especially proud of how students are supporting one another and taking pride in their work. At the same time, students are engaging in deeper discussions, applying critical thinking skills, and working through projects that encourage independence and responsibility.

Together, these experiences help students strengthen communication, problem-solving, and reflection skills, essential tools that support academic growth and confidence both now and in the future.

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all the families who participated in tonight’s District Family Coding Night. Your involvement made the evening a success and highlighted the strong partnership between our schools and families.

Thank you, as always, for your ongoing support. We are grateful to work alongside such an engaged and supportive school community.

Take care,

Michael Chaix, Ed.D.
Superintendent

Kicks to Learn: Sports, Skills, and College Dreams!

We are thrilled to be able to continue the exciting Kicks to Learn program happening during student lunch recesses! This initiative brings local college students to our school once a week to coach, mentor, and play sports with our students right on the playground!

Each week, these college mentors lead students through a variety of games and skills, including soccer, football, kickball, and team-building activities. This is open to any and all students interested in participating. But it’s about more than just movement—Kicks to Learn is designed to promote:

  • Sportsmanship and teamwork
  • College and career readiness through positive role models
  • Development of critical life skills like communication, goal-setting, and problem-solving

Portrait of a Graduate in Action
Through this program, students are actively practicing key traits from our district’s Portrait of a Graduate, including:

  • Cross-Cultural Understanding – by learning and playing in inclusive, collaborative teams
  • Problem Solving– by listening, encouraging, and working with others
  • Resiliency and Self-Direction – by trying new skills, learning from mistakes, and setting goals for improvement

Our Cubs are not only getting physically active—they’re also seeing what’s possible when hard work and education come together. The college coaches often share their own journeys and encourage our students to imagine a bright future for themselves, both academically and athletically.

We are so proud to bring programs like Kicks to Learn to our school—ones that support the whole child and help our Cubs grow into strong, kind, and capable learners on and off the field.
