SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
2/6/26

Dear CSD Families,

As we move through the remainder of the school year, each school day is an important opportunity for learning, growth, and success for our students, a chance to build new skills, strengthen confidence, and continue developing a love of learning that will serve them well beyond the classroom.

These moments of progress and achievement are made possible through the strong partnership between home and school. When families, teachers, and staff work together, our students are supported, encouraged, and empowered to reach their full potential.

As we head into the weekend, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. Your involvement, encouragement, and trust make a meaningful difference in our students’ success each day.

I also want to extend heartfelt appreciation to our teachers and staff for their unwavering commitment to student excellence. Their dedication, care, and passion help create a positive and engaging learning environment for all of our students.

We hope you enjoy a relaxing three-day weekend with your families. Please remember that schools will be closed on Monday in observance of Abraham Lincoln’s Birthday.

Thank you again for being such an important part of our school community. We wish you a safe, restful, and enjoyable long weekend and look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday.

To make the holiday even more fun, here are a few Abraham Lincoln facts you can share with your students at home:

  • Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States.
  • He was the tallest U.S. president, standing at 6 feet 4 inches tall!
  • Lincoln loved to read and was mostly self-educated.
  • He kept important papers and letters in his famous tall stovepipe hat.
  • Before becoming president, Lincoln worked as a store clerk, surveyor, and lawyer.
  • He had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories and jokes.
  • Lincoln helped end slavery by issuing the Emancipation Proclamation.

Take care,
Michael Chaix, Ed.D.

History Comes Alive: Fifth Grade Shines in Walk Through the American Revolution!

Our fifth-grade classrooms were buzzing with excitement recently as students traveled back in time for "Walk Through the American Revolution." This dynamic, hands-on presentation transformed the school day into a living history museum, providing a lively retelling of our nation’s beginnings. From the early days of colonial settlement to the final cheers at the Battle of Yorktown in 1783, our students didn’t just read about history—they lived it. Through a spirited combination of games, music, storytelling, and re-enactments, this event sparked a deeper interest in our social studies curriculum while building essential skills in performance literacy and vocabulary development.

The energy on campus was high as students took on a variety of active roles, with many taking the lead in multiple parts to ensure the revolution was a success! Working in teams, students competed in friendly challenges that required them to recite historical facts, define key vocabulary, and portray famous legends of the era. Whether they were reciting portions of the Declaration of Independence or re-enacting pivotal battle scenes, the students displayed incredible teamwork and enthusiasm. It was a joy to see them "caught with greatness" throughout the day as they balanced the serious study of California state standards with the pure fun of interactive learning.

We were also thrilled to see such a wonderful turnout from our parent community. Having families in the audience to cheer on these young historians made the experience even more meaningful for the children. This event serves as a fantastic supplement to our classroom learning, providing a foundation for more in-depth discussions about the diverse perspectives of our nation's past. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success; it was truly a memorable day where our students' creativity and academic spirit were on full display!
