SUPERINTENDENT'S WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
October 9, 2026

Dear CSD Families,

There is nothing better than seeing our students thrive! This week, I had the privilege of visiting three of our wonderful campuses. Across every grade level and classroom, we saw radiant energy, hands-on learning, and strong relationships in action.

  • District-Wide Culture & Spirit: We kicked off the week celebrating school spirit and strong attendance with Cucamonga Elementary winning the Attend to Achieve trophy, welcomed student leaders taking on special roles for the day, and maintained our commitment to Capturing Kids’ Hearts through student-created Social Contracts in every classroom.
  • RCMS: Students are excelling in STEAM with 3D printing, ceramics, and interactive VR escape rooms, alongside hands-on science experiments, geometry journaling, and goal-setting activities.
  • Elementary Schools: Classrooms are focusing on foundational reading and math skills through interactive learning centers, creative writing, hands-on science projects (like fossil painting), and cross-grade buddy collaboration.

As a reminder, Parent-Teacher Conferences at RCMS are scheduled for next week, October 12th through 16th! These conversations are a wonderful opportunity to partner together in support of your child's success.

To help you get the absolute most out of your time with your child's teacher, here are three quick tips:

  1. Ask Your Child First: Before your meeting, check in with your child. Ask them what they enjoy most about class, what feels challenging, or if there is anything specific they would like you to bring up with their teacher.
  2. Focus on Growth & Strengths: Beyond grades, ask about your child's academic growth, social-emotional habits, and how they collaborate with peers in class.
  3. Establish a Clear Action Plan: End the meeting by asking, "What is one thing we can do at home to support what you are doing in the classroom?" Working together ensures a consistent bridge between home and school.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support of our school district community. We look forward to seeing you at conferences next week!

Take care,
Michael Chaix, Ed.D.

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

Rancho Cucamonga Middle School

Creativity, Innovation, and Learning in Action!

Creativity and innovation are thriving at Rancho Cucamonga Middle School as students explore exciting opportunities through our elective programs! From virtual reality to photography and ceramics, our Lions are discovering new ways to express themselves, solve problems, and bring their ideas to life.

In Computer Science, students have been developing their coding skills while creating interactive virtual reality projects. Using VR headsets, students are able to experience their own creations in an immersive environment, transforming lines of code into something truly remarkable! This week, district leaders had the exciting opportunity to experience these student-designed projects firsthand, witnessing the creativity, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities of our young innovators.

Meanwhile, our Photography students have been spotted throughout campus, cameras in hand, exploring the elements of design and discovering new perspectives on our beautiful school grounds. Through their lenses, students are learning to appreciate the details, patterns, and compositions that make everyday surroundings extraordinary.

In Ceramics, students are getting into the October spirit by designing and creating imaginative projects, including whimsical gnomes and spooky seasonal creations. These hands-on experiences encourage artistic expression, patience, and perseverance as students transform their ideas into tangible works of art.

Across all our electives, students are developing essential Portrait of a Graduate skills, including creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem-solving, initiative and self-direction, and information, communication, and technology literacy. These experiences remind us that meaningful learning takes many forms, and that providing students opportunities to explore their passions helps prepare them for success well beyond the classroom.

It's a great time to be a Lion!
